2016 Scholarship Recipients
Brittany Deanna Barnes will be a junior at Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina during the 2016-2017 academic year. She is majoring in Psychology and minoring in Biology. She has been named to Claflin University’s Honor Roll and has been recognized by the National Society of Leadership and Success. After completing her undergraduate degree, she plans to further her education at Emory University Medical School in Atlanta, Georgia where she plans to become a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. Her ultimate goal is to open a private practice and to teach at the university level. Ms. Barnes was awarded the Angie Kennedy Educational Foundation Scholarship.

Cheyanne Storm Wehunt will be a freshman during the 2016-2017 academic year majoring in Early Childhood Education at Young Harris College in Young Harris, Georgia. She earned a varsity letter in softball at Buford High School where she was also on the Honor Roll from 2013 through 2016. She was also a member of Beta Club at Buford High School. Upon graduating from Young Harris College, she plans to begin teaching at a Title I Elementary School in the state of Georgia. She would like build a career as a classroom teacher until she retires. Ms. Wehunt was awarded the Angie Kennedy Educational Foundation Scholarship

Dishawn Isaiah Cullen will be a freshman during the 2016-2017 academic year majoring in Health and Physical Education at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia. He is a four-year varsity letterman in soccer and served as the captain of his high school’s soccer team. He also found success in club competitive soccer serving as a leader on the team that won the Georgia State Championship in 2014. In addition to sports, Dishawn was selected to serve in Leadership Douglas during his high school career and served on the Douglas County Youth Task Force. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southern University, he plans to teach high school health and personal fitness and coach boys’ soccer. Ultimately, he would like to serve as a positive role model and give to another young person what his coaches and teachers have given to him. Mr. Cullen was awarded the Angie Kennedy Educational Foundation Scholarship.

Erica Juquietta Hicks will be a junior during the 2016-2017 academic year majoring in Early Childhood Education at Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She is the recipient of Jane E. Hunter Scholarship, The Palmetto Life Scholarship, and the TEACH Grant. Upon graduating from Claflin University she plans on earning her Ph.D. in Education from Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta Georgia. Ultimately she plans on owning her own day learning center then opening up a dream center where she will assist people with making their dreams come true. Ms. Hicks is the recipient of the Odethell Y. McKinney Memorial Scholarship sponsored through the Angie Kennedy Educational Foundation.

Jellisa T. Ewan will be a junior during the 2016-2017 academic year with a major in Biotechnology at Claflin University at Claflin University. She is a recipient of the Alice Carson Tisdale Honors Scholarship and obtained an internship position at Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research. Upon graduating from Claflin University she intends to pursue a Ph.D. in Biotechnology or Environmental Science at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. Upon completion of her undergraduate degree she would like to begin her career at Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research. She will then use this experience to transfer into the field of water conservation so that she can discover ways to develop and sustain a healthy global environment. Ms. Ewan is the recipient of the Angie Kennedy Educational Foundation Scholarship.

Sydney Grace-Louise Murdaugh will be a freshman during the 2016-2017 academic year concentrating on a dual major in music performance and music education. She will attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Sydney was an honor student at Orangeburg Wilkinson High School, where she was a member of National Spanish Honor Society and a member of the National Honors Society for High School Scholars. She received an All-State rating of Superior and reigned as Miss Orangeburg Wilkinson High School. Upon completing her undergraduate degree, she plans to perform with various opera houses and Broadway shows. Ultimately she would like to pursue graduate degrees in Music Therapy and work with autistic children. Ms. Murdaugh is the recipient of the Orangeburg-Wilkinson Class of 1979 Scholarship sponsored through the Angie Kennedy Educational Foundation.

Ms. Terika Williams will be a freshman during the 2016-2017 academic year pursuing a degree in Computer Science at Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She served as the Secretary of the Student Body at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School where she was also a member of the Beta Club. In 2015 she was a delegate to Palmetto Girls’ State. Upon completing her undergraduate degree at Clalfin University, she plans to seek a career as a computer programmer in Atlanta, Georgia. Terrell Nathaniel Smith will be a junior during the 2016-2017 academic year majoring in Elementary Education at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. He is an active member of the National Society of Leadership and Success and has served the community by participating in Walking for Autism during the 2015-2016 academic year. He plans on earning a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and obtaining a teaching position in a well-organized school district. Eventually he plans on earning a master’s degree in elementary education as well. His ultimate goal is to work with children with physical and mental disabilities in schools and informal learning environments.

Tevin Kashawn Hayward will be a senior during the 2016-2017 academic year majoring in Mechanical Engineering at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He is the recipient of South Carolina State University Achiever’s scholarship as well as a Boeing Engineering scholarship. During the 2015-2016 academic year he was received the Presidential Scholars award from South Carolina State University. Upon graduating from South Carolina State University he plans to pursue a professional career with the companies Boeing or BMW. Mr. Hayward is the recipient of the Edward Bradley Memorial Scholarship sponsored by the Angie Kennedy Educational Foundation.
